Common Identity is rather an idea than a name. It is the vision of a multidisciplinary collective, a community of friends who share their love and interest for art and design. The core of their collaboration is to find in their enduring friendship and a fusion between working and living together, between the individual and the collective. The scope of their disciplines encompasses a range of skills and handcrafts like photography, illustration, sculpture, furniture design, fashion design, wood and metal works. While working on their individual projects side by side the group realized, that when put together, their works create an atmosphere in which everybody feels quite at home and comfortable immediately. A ‘side by side’ inevitably transforms into a ‘with each other’ and working together becomes their applied philosophy. An exhibition space, a piece of work or a special encounter becomes the temporary home for their Common Identity. Togetherness is the group’s bonding. Their intention is not only to create unique pieces and installations but also to invite their hosts and their audience to become part of the collective. They invite people to join, to become engaged, to inspire and to be inspired. Guests can become hosts and vice versa. The aim of each collaboration is to create a place where people can work and feel at home at the same time and in which the individual and the collective can learn, share and gain experience. The group is therefore not limited to certain members, nor are they bound to a certain place. It is rather the idea to allow the collective to be in constant flux. Each place they get invited to opens up new possibilities for the group to redefine their work and every new collaboration brings in various new notions and experiences. An exhibition of the work of Common Identity is therefore rather a place for individual and collective growth, for relaxation and interpersonal encounters. Working and living should be a pleasurable combination. The social gathering becomes more important than a certain product. Common Identity describes the group’s idea of their friendship, their collaboration and their creation of spaces and possibilities to get together to create and share art and design, the things they love.
